My third rotation was the much-anticipated clinical rotation. I was fortunate to be placed at Holy Cross Germantown Hospital in Germantown, Maryland. The hospital was just celebrating its fourth birthday when I began my rotation, so you can imagine how new and impressive everything looked. One of my favorite parts of this rotation is that it took place at a small hospital- with only 80 beds! Many of my classmates were placed in hospitals with over 200 beds, to give a comparison. Being in a smaller hospital created a more comfortable atmosphere because everyone seemed to know everyone. Another aspect I really enjoyed was that there was only one dietitian, who I learned from exclusively throughout my time there. Since one dietitian handled every unit, I was immersed in everything from the ICU to general med/surg to behavioral health from day one, which I really enjoyed. I loved clinical, even more than I was expecting, and a lot of credit goes to the wonderful staff at Holy Cross Germantown for fostering such a great environment.
